What Herzstark contributed
Curt Herzstark designed the cylindrical Curta, manufactured after the Second World War, as a compact four-function calculator. Mechanical calculators remained useful into the electronic era, but solid-state electronic calculators eventually offered lower effort, greater speed and expanding functions. The older devices survive as conceptual ancestors and durable specialist tools.

Reduces the mental and written burden of executing repetitive arithmetic procedures.
