What Baer contributed
Baer and colleagues at Sanders Associates built the Brown Box prototype in 1967–68. Licensed to Magnavox, the design became the Odyssey in 1972, the first commercial home video-game console.
Why it mattered
The Odyssey established the television as an interactive display and created a commercial path for home game hardware, controllers and replaceable game experiences.
