A whopping 14 teams are involved this year and the tournament is due to last about 6 weeks apparently.
I hear it’s starting on Sunday?? Hopefully we get some fixtures soon.
They’ve tried to use a provincial qualification process which has mostly worked but has led to some anomalies. I’m not clear how Takashinga have qualified both teams based on Vigne Cul standings. Unless some other teams just weren’t interested?
There’s no OH/‘Harare Kings’ this time so there’s a handful of forum-favourite players who either might not feature or will have to find another club.

I’m glad they’ve reverted back to this timing in the season. It serves as a warm-up/trial for the franchise season which I believe is starting first week of October.

Maybe our players are slowly getting better at this format.
A couple of amazing shots from Kamunukamwe. That first 6 was unbelievable. Where and how did he decide to play that shot? Even Glen Maxwell would have said "that's pushing the limits!" 😂

He clearly putting his hand up for the qualifiers. I think he will have stiff competition with Kaia marumani snd welch snr however.

Except international bowlers won't bowl it into his arc of justice. As good as his innings was, Maru and Welch were dealing with Ngarava, Chivanga and Welly, which was a tougher bowling attack.
We've got a few guys that can clout a domestic attack on their day, but maybe only 2 or 3 that can do that against more accurate bowling. I'm not saying he can't, he's a talented guy for sure.
Another real quality shot was Marumani's. I don't even know what you call it- a straight bat pick up off his hip over backward square. I've seen him play it a couple of times before, he might be the only guy on the planet with it in his locker. Mesmerising shot.

Its very doubtful K Long will face international quality bowlers in the African qualifiers with the exeption of trumpleman and Weise

K-long has always been an interesting one. Been a cracking player domestically but hasn't showed it in the internationals he has played so far.
Played 15 matches (8 ODI, 7 T20i) with averages of 13 and 18 respectively and just 1 50 (51). Notably less than 100 SR as well because he couldn't find gaps for singles.
I like the guy and his firepower but he needs to take the next chance he has at maybe a t20. I don't think he will get another chance now unfortunately with the current team setup.

He’s very inconsistent even at domestic level. Clearly very capable on his day - yesterday was epic. But doesn’t do it often enough even at club or franchise level.

I wonder what the plan for the franchise season is?
The Africa T20 Qualifier begins 20th November. It would make sense to immediately follow the NPL T20 with the proper Domestic T20 for a few weeks, before the squad heads off on a pre-tour somewhere before the qualifier.
Then start the Logan Cup in November.

Hopefully they do this but knowing them they might sneak in 2 rounds of the logan cup first. I think we need at least 2 weeks of the domestic T20 and then a week of the "regional" T20 then the selected guys go into camp. The thing is I don't think they are too worried about qualifying so they won't really prep as hard as they should.
