Opening post

Time for the franchise season to start - with the Pro50 up first. Fixtures every Friday & Sunday for the next 5 weekends, played around the country.

The first round this weekend is Eagles vs Rocks at Takashinga, and Mountaineers vs Rhinos at Mutare.

With the national team off to Namibia (and then the actual qualifiers a couple of weeks later) it seems that the national squad will miss the entire tournament. Hopefully a few of the overseas will arrive soon to strengthen things.

Mountaineers are the double-defending champions having won the last couple of editions.
Will the Pakistani fast bowlers participate?
Playing XIs out?

Schadendorf has moved to Mountaineers. PJ is also playing for them which I find surprising.

Alex Russell and Romario Roach?? At Eagles

Johnathan Campbell has been signed by Rocks.

They’ve also picked up Mufandauya who did well in the NPL
Real test of Musekiwa this tournament. Doing it at NPL level is all well and good but the franchise stuff gives a better idea of how good he is.

He and Frost were not in the starting line up at Rocks originally. Not sure where Frost is now.

It’s Dane at Mountaineers. Maybe Jayden is still at Rocks? But not playing today anyway. Neither is Frost.

I don’t know yo, say Nick gubbins comes over. Some kid with a sweet county gig. Get him in the national side ZC, give him citizenship. Like why would Nick gubbins even fancy that?!

In his yearbook at school it will read something like when I grow up I want to be earning $50 a season playing in Zim and can’t wait to have to buy my own lunch at chicken inn every day because the grounds and facilities are dog s**t.

Yes!!! Usually seems to be south Asians. They’ve never ever ever seen these guys actually play cricket but as soon as someone with a white sounding name plays at any level in Zim they instantly want them to captain the national side immediately 😂 South Asians seems the most racist of all, generally*.

* Not including some of the very knowledgeable south Asian posters we are lucky to have here.

Local new fans tend to be into bandwagon-ism too. One I was talking to in the early stages of the t20 World Cup was totally convinced Williams needed dropping for Evans after a couple of low scores. Just got to smile and nod and hope stupid isn’t contagious.

There are also some extremely knowledgeable fans on social media so credit where it is due.

Name a greater first class comp in the world...

To be fair I tend to watch a lot of African domestic cricket across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.....so I agree some people are just weird 😂

Even our parents are racist if they have a son/daughter who is mildly off colour yo 😂 . Racism is like breakfast here, we just don't take any offense to it mostly.

Here's a sad fact- if you took a poll from current fans whether they could pick Naqvi, Ballance or BT 90% would jump on the Knackerville bus.

One unproven guy with a remarkable domestic record vs a couple of guys with international pedigree.

I'm just saying there are folk here desperately short of cricket acumen.


I'd be picking Ballance in front of BT only because he is 5 years younger
