Mate our bench strength is 'almost' as good as the main team, sure you would agree. Not much of a chance here for Zimbabwe, may be Zim's best chance is to prepare bowling friendly pitches and hope India slip up a game or two.

Even India's A team won't slip up in a single game (forget about two games). Bowlers pitch, batting pitch, fielders pitch, spectators pitch doesn't matter.

A team with vast IPL experience just sets the bar high doesnt. Yet on the other side Zim players play a handful of T20 games and expect miracles when it comes to the big leagues.

May be not, but I'm saying that way it's Zimbabwe's best chance.

Even the Australia ODI they won sometime ago came on a very tough pitch to bat on. That's what I mean.

Yeah I'm to agree on the race thing.

I recall how we had about 7-8 non black players at one point in and around the 2018 world cup qualifiers. If ZC was just racist towards whites that wouldn't have been the case.

Does the non-selection of Burl indicate that Marumani may move down the order with Wes opening? If Wes plays he has to open, can't be clogging up the middle order.

This may not be a bad series for Burl to miss, we lose 5-0 and he comes in as the saviour, same with Nick Welch.

17 is a big squad. We probably only have about 25-30 decent guys overall

I agree mostly. A mixture of nepotism, tribalism, racism and favoritism. If you talk to anyone in ZC they blame ZC, it's just bizarre. You'll very rarely see anyone actually point a finger at an individual. They hide behind the organisation.

I sometimes think the big bosses don't get too involved in some of the bullshit, I think their minions are often the culprits and they do what they do because they think it will please their bosses. Maybe they intuitively know? Maybe they get enough free rein that they can pursue their own agenda?

Whatever it is (and maybe the reasons change a bit from time to time), it makes for poor selections, poor organisation and poor results, and not a lot to look forward to.

I'll point a finger this time around- Mavuta's and Madhevere's inclusion shows that whoever (who exactly, this is the big question?) is giving Mangongo's boys a big thumbs up, and clearly Steve is the current flavor of the month. Maybe its Mutendira reading the room amd being as ingratiating as he can? Most guys in ZC try and be as unobtrusive and non combative as possible and play the political game. Left field selections/omissions are Steve's style. Mangongo is just full steam ahead, which is unusual, and if the planets align for him his status will go up immeasurably. It can easily and quickly swing the other way though. I don't think Steve will get too ahead of himself this time though, I think he's learned some hard lessons, I might be wrong. Success with some guys makes them more dictatorial and he's prone to that. I'm sure that shows he's heading off on the u25 tour, but likely to be under Houghton.

That will be an interesting one.

Naqvi's selection I'm sure is a direct order from Mr Mukhulani.

I want Zim to do well, but I want that to bite them, him and the other guys who've short circuited some things for him.
The cricinfo article mentioned Naqvi’s selection is subject to citizenship status, is that all but guaranteed?

Zubair Naqvi and Mr Mukhulani will have come to an arrangement involving a donation 😂

I think burl hasn't been performing for a while and it's a good wake up call..

Wes and Mavuta might be hungry for success after they ban..

Naqvi would do wonders

In any case Craig, Sean , Burl and even Gumbie would be in the Test Squad for Ireland no harm, no fuol..

Let's not forget Streak was the coach but all that been said , Streak lost his job over picking PJ Moor over Zhuwao..

Pretty much a formality I think. He really is a great example for all the other domestic players looking to get into the Zimbabwe team. Amazing what can be done if you score big.

Burl and Ervine have been very average in T20 for a long time now. Hopefully for Burl it doesn’t affect his selection for the Ireland Test because I think he is still one of the first names to be picked along with Williams and Ervine

My XI for first game:

Marumani

Bennett

Raza

Naqvi

Campbell

Madande

Jongwe

Masakadza

Akram

Muzarabani

Ngarava
