Opening post

Always drama in Zim cricket, so many stop starts over the last 17 years. From fixtures being a problem to then getting many fixtures, covid happened. From dismally failing to qualify for the world cup in t20 to missing out on this t20 world cup for silly reasons. Struggling to field our best 11 after finally discovering a generation of good players due to some unfortunate and silly reasons. Just when we finally feel we can have them all together for another 2-3 years, BT our most important player for many years decides to quit. As a fan, this has really been emotionally taxing, and the future really is in doubt now.

However, the show must go on! Today still is an important game for us and a must win. We should bat first today regardless of the conditions.

Google's forecast changed! showeing very little chance of rain.

I still expect at least some rain though. Hopefully we get a result and ideally one with at least 35-40 overs per side.

Yep. 30% chance now. But I guess the problem is their drainage. 30 minutes of rain can ruin the whole game.

Is Burl still injured??? Lets hope the rain holds off today, to give Brendan a fitting farewell

Important t 10 points up for grabs here, let's not forget direct qualification is one thing but if Zim win today they very realistically improve their chances of NOT finishing 13th.

Not sure hey. If fit, then he could be in for Shumba. Hard on Shumba though, didn't get to bat in the 1st game.

Yes I saw this as well. Even the hour by hour forecast looks OK now. Hopefully we give BT the send off he deserves. Come to think about Elton is the only guy I remember retiring in a subdued manner. Hami went crazy in his final game

Games in Ireland are such a waste 🤦‍♂️ raining again 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Yeah, this game is done. Even if it stops raining, this ground clearly doesn't drain well.

Safe to say game is done

But when we talk about all the fab 4, Blessing, the young sensations, Burl, etc. al available regularly for two years, we do need to keep in mind that such a possibility is unrealistic and there would be niggles and injuries along the way. We may not be able to field the XI we are fielding today match in and match out. So, this is just wishful thinking for most part. Then you also have to consider a majority of them being in good form too.

Having said that, given the right conditions, we could have sneaked a game or two against SL, WI, BD, AFG, etc. and would have pushed SA, Pak and the likes too.

Well, not a fairy tale end with the bat we hoped for. But a great career for sure. Thanks for the memories, Brendan Ross Murray Taylor!

One final Taylor special wasn't to be :(

Given BT 284 was printed on his shirt, I wonder if this has been planned for a while? Surely they couldn't have printed it overnight?

Nice to see you BRMT, although the circumstances are sad.

Gutted that I'll be looking at stats with Taylor just short of a couple of 10,000s for the rest of my life.

I dare say this Zimbabwe side can give most of the top sides a good run for their money, which is why I firmly believe if all seniors stick around, auto qualification is not an unrealistic dream.

This is incredibly naive thinking, you haven't been watching cricket long have you? Our strongest side would finish tenth at best

I'd say why not? I watch all cricket games, a lot of teams these days, except India, England, Australia and New zealand are weak teams.

Pak, SLN, WI, even RSA are not as strong as they used to be and all am saying is Zimbabwe can compete well against these sides. Same for Bang.

Ah, so the List A 10000 was what you were referring to in the Stats thread then...

Good to see you too Jemisi, it's sad but how lucky have we been to have had 17 years of this.

After Williams (if he sticks around) will we ever seen anyone play for Zim for nearly 2 decades again?

I hope guys like Madhevere and Shumba hang around, but you can't help but feel the era of Zimbabwe as a major cricket nation is fast ending.

Will WM/MS/BM really be that keen playing Uganda and Belgium and the occasional special treat of a "test match" against Afghanistan?

Yeah mate, not to mention he's a season of FC short of 10,000 there too. :(

Well these young blokes have started off at 19 so maybe one of them will keep going deep. I think we'll have Uganda covered for a while but oohh losing to Belgium will be rough. I'm still hurting from the Singapore incident.
